Glasgow and Scotland wedding venues that suit Asian weddings

· 4 min read · By the Diamond Events team

Venues across Glasgow, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Fife, Dundee and Aberdeen that work well for large Asian weddings, with the guest numbers each room holds and what to ask before you book.

An Asian wedding asks a lot of a venue. Guest lists run into the hundreds, there may be several functions over a weekend, and the room has to take a full stage, a long aisle, a dance floor and a kitchen operation at the same time. Not every beautiful room can do all of that. These are venues from our own list that suit Asian weddings, grouped by area, with the guest numbers each room holds. The full list, with every room, is on our venues page.

Glasgow

Glasgow has several city-centre hotels with ballrooms built for large weddings, all within easy reach for guests travelling by train or car.

  • Hilton Glasgow, William Street: the Grand Ballroom holds 450 to 600 guests, and the Riverside Suite around 120, which suits a smaller Nikkah in the same building.
  • Marriott Hotel, Argyle Street: the Clyde Suite holds 520 to 550.
  • Radisson Blu Hotel, Argyle Street: the Megalithic Suite holds 500 to 550.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central: the Grand Ballroom holds 450 to 500, with the Robert Burns Suite at 120 to 150.
  • Crowne Plaza Hotel, Congress Road: a hall for around 540.
  • Hampden National Stadium: the Lomond and Nevis Suites each hold around 450, with the Bell and Baird Suites at about 150 each.

For something different, Kelvingrove Art Gallery holds around 400 and the Glasgow Science Centre around 300. Both are memorable settings, and both need careful planning around access and set-up times.

Around Glasgow

Just outside the city, there are venues with more space around them, easier parking and, in some cases, grounds for photographs.

  • Erskine Bridge Hotel: a function suite for 500 to 600.
  • Normandy Hotel, Renfrew: the Blythswood Complex holds around 500, with the Cedar Suite at 80 to 100.
  • Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort, Bishopton: the Grand Pavilion holds 250 to 350 and the Marton House Ballroom 140 to 170.
  • Bothwell Bridge Hotel: the Bothwell Suite holds 280 to 350.
  • The Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort, Cumbernauld: the Grand Suite holds 300 to 350.
  • MacDonald Crutherland House Hotel, East Kilbride: the Crutherland Suite holds 270 to 300, close to our own office.
  • Clarkston Hall and Milngavie Town Hall: halls for around 180 to 250, good for a Mehndi or Dholki.

Ayrshire

Ayr Racecourse is one of the largest venues on our list: the Ayrshire Suite holds 600 to 800 guests, with the Princess Royal Suite at 350 to 450 and the Roman Warrior Suite at 130 to 180, so a whole weekend can sit under one roof. Trump Turnberry Resort’s ballroom holds 500 to 640, with the Crystal Room at around 180. The Park Hotel in Kilmarnock and Enterkine House Hotel near Ayr suit weddings of around 270 to 400.

Edinburgh and the Lothians

For the very largest guest lists, Murrayfield Stadium can hold around 1,000, the Edinburgh Corn Exchange 650 to 750 and the Royal Highland Centre around 700. Brunton Hall in Musselburgh holds around 500 and Heriot-Watt University around 450. For a smaller, grander setting, The Balmoral Hotel’s Sir Walter Scott Suite holds around 280. MacDonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa in Polmont, between Glasgow and Edinburgh, suits families with guests coming from both cities.

Fife, Perthshire and Dundee

Caird Hall in Dundee holds around 600 in the Caird Suite, and the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews around 450. Fingask Castle in Perthshire and Perth Racecourse suit weddings of around 230 to 300.

Aberdeen and the North

Mercure Ardoe House Hotel’s ballroom in Aberdeen holds 470 to 500, and MacDonald Drumossie Hotel in Inverness has a ballroom suite for 450 to 500. The Barn at Barra Castle near Inverurie holds around 200.

What to ask before you book

A room that seats your guests is only the first test. Before you sign, ask the venue:

  • Whether you can bring your own caterer, and what kitchen or preparation space is available for them.
  • What time the décor team can get in, and when the room must be cleared.
  • Whether the room has enough height and width for the stage you have in mind.
  • What the venue supplies itself: tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery, glassware or staff.
  • Whether there are restrictions on candles, music volume or finishing time.
  • Whether a second suite is available for another function the same weekend.

The guest numbers above are the figures on our own venue list, and each venue sets its own layouts, so please confirm the capacity for your layout directly with the venue.

Not booked a venue yet?

That is fine. Many families come to us before they have a venue. Tell us your dates, your rough guest numbers for each function and the area you are thinking of, and we will talk you through the rooms that fit. You can do that by building your package or at a complimentary consultation. If your venue is not on our list, just tell us where it is.
